Hong Kong Orienteering Info Web (ORIEN.HK) is established and managed by Metropolitan Orienteering Club (MetOC). The aim of ORIEN.HK is to concentrate information on the sport of orienteering in Hong Kong, so that it would be of convenience to orienteers in Hong Kong and others who might find the sport attractive.

Orienteering started as military training in 19th century Europe, thereafter turning to civil enjoyment in Sweden and Norway through Scouting and athletic clubs. It later gained recognition as a sport of its own by the National and International Olympic Committees in the early- to mid-20th century.

In Hong Kong, the sport was introduced by British soldiers into the then-colony after the Second World War, and now boasts 30+ clubs (including MetOC), many active athletes, and an average of one event for almost every week of the year. Clubs enjoy strong partnership on events and activities with other companies and social organisations. As an early adopter of orienteering in Asia, Hong Kong has also become a centre from where the sport spread to other parts of Asia.

We hope that orienteering in Hong Kong will match the levels of stronger countries in Europe very soon.
